Song Jiang' revolt began with only 36 people in Heshuo in the first year of Xuanhe Reign (AD 1119), and then grew to nearly 200 people when spreading southward into Jingdong and Huainan. In the spring of 1121, they turned northeast, and were defeated with the loss of 20 people by a troop of 100 soldiers led by an officer of Shuyang county, and then were forced to drift to Haizhou, and were again de- feated by Zhang Shuye and finally received amnesty from the emperor in April. According to Wang Chen and Zhou Mi, scholars of the Southern Sung, there is nothing to do with Song Jiang who joined the punitive expedition against Fang La in the same year, which is further evidenced by the unearthed inscription of 1939, saying "the bandit Song Jiang was captured after the punitive expedition against Fang La".
